What social issues are you most pressed about?

Hi! My name is Kelly and I am an Executive Assistant at Ushur. I’m interested in getting to know community members more by learning about what social issues they want to address the most. If you were to invest your time and resources in a charitable cause, what would it be and why? Please be detailed in what you share because I’d like to raise awareness and trigger interest in others to be more involved in our communities. The first step I’d like to take is to bond through the sharing of our ideas. Let’s educate each other on what sparks our interests and why!

Hi Kelly and welcome to the community!

I’d pick homelessness! As an immigrant, I never understood why one of the largest cities I always dreamt of living in (San Francisco to be specific!) should be this broken. The city is a mess and apparently, no one is willing to do something serious about it. I mean, beyond taxing and moving money.

Hi Amir! Thank you for your warm welcome. I think the homelessness crisis is beyond shocking as well. I just wanted to share some scary statistics that I’ve found. LA, the city itself, has approximately 40,000 registered homeless persons there.

Hi @kelly.dinh! For me, it’s mental health and suicide awareness. I have anxiety myself, and my daughter has dealt with depression and attempted suicide. I believe we have to remove the stigma and talk about it so people don’t suffer and die alone.

Hello Kelly , Thanks for making us pause from our daily run run mode to take the time to think and ink   about issues.
For me it is Childhood hunger and Mental health.
Mental health -

In this day and age of social media the pressure on teens and adults is immense. It is tough to live a balance life with constant bombardment of looking perfect and living a perfect life. We should all remember there is nothing called perfect. We each must live our life honestly, love everyone around you whole heartedly without any expectations. (Easier said than done especially for young adults).

My mantra smile and say hello to total strangers, you never know what they are going through, your smile may be the only smile they seen on an off day.
Have one person in your life who you can talk to about all your issues without being judged.

Childhood Hunger

In Arizona 1 in 6 children do hungry on a regular basis, IT is unbelievable that we cannot come up with a plan to make food available to kids. Food is a necessity for the growth and development of little kids. Do not waste food, look from programs in your local community where you can volunteer and help reduce the number of kids who go hungry.

Indeed, Anitha. Thank you for sharing your perspective.
